Big Brother & Voice of Potential, Kadeem McKnight Represents BBBSCNNJ at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s National Conference
Kadeem McKnight holds many titles with BBBSCNNJ including mentor, Voice of Potential Ambassador, and 2025 College Big Brother of the Year. Recently, he added one more as he was selected to attend the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Conference as a Youth Ambassador. At the conference, which was held in Philadelphia, he joined youth representatives, leaders, and changemakers from across the country to celebrate and advance the mission of mentorship. For Kadeem, the experience was both eye-opening and deeply affirming.
“The whole experience really stuck with me and inspired me throughout the week,” Kadeem shared. “Hearing all of the stories that people told about their experiences with BBBS really expanded my understanding of the mentorship programs and even my own experience as a mentor with BBBSCNNJ.”
As a recent college graduate, mentor, and youth advocate, Kadeem has already made a meaningful impact in our local community. Representing our agency on a national stage allowed him to connect with other young leaders who share similar experiences and similar goals. “It felt like a confirmation for me,” he said. “To see other young adults like me, who look similar to me, making an impact as well.”
During the conference, Kadeem had the opportunity to meet Big Brothers Big Sisters of America President & CEO Artis Stevens, interact with CEOs from local agencies around the country, and engage with the National Youth Council, a group of BBBS alumni Littles who help elevate the voice of youth nationally.
For Kadeem, one of the most valuable takeaways was the reminder that mentorship is built on consistency and care. “I learned how important it is to check in with my people every day,” he said. “Everyone needs somebody who will help push them to better themselves.”
The conference also gave Kadeem a new perspective on the scale and scope of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ work, “This conference has opened my eyes to the work that’s being done to make communities around the country better.”
When asked what message he’d share with others after this experience, Kadeem kept it simple: “Thank you for opening your doors to me and allowing me to be a part of something this big and impactful.”
Kadeem is a shining example of what’s possible when potential is ignited through mentorship. As he continues to grow his network and leadership, we are proud to cheer him on and look forward to seeing the impact he’ll continue to make—not only within our program, but far beyond.
